Soryu was the Imperial Navy's first true aircraft carrier, which was constructed based on the partical resullts obtained from modified carriers such as the Akagi and Kaga. However, due to the restrictions on vessel displacements imposed under the Washington Naval Treaty, Soryu was completed at the end of December in 1937 as a medium-sized aircraft carrier with a displacement of 18,000 tons. In March 1938, it accommodated a total of 57 aircrafts, comprising 12 Type-96 carrier fighters, 27 Type-96 carrier dive bombers and 18 Type-96 carrier attack bombers. In April 1938, it was transferred into the 2nd Carrier Division of IJN 2nd Feet, and put out to sea for Shino Japanese war....more
