With a displacement of 500 tonnes this class of submarine is one of the smallest but most manoeuvrable armed submersibles in the world. It went into service with the Federal German Navy in 1973 as the 206 class and in 1987 it underwent a modernisation programme at HDW to become the 206A class. These submarines are characterised by low acoustic signature and amagnetic construction and have excellent manoeuvrability. Wire-guided torpedoes are located in 8 forward tubes. The heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, max. displacement 18.750 tons, was commissioned on 1.8.1940 at the Krupp Germaniawerft in Kiel. After having sunk the Hood in collaboration with the Bismarck, it made a successful breakthrough from Brest on 11.2.1942. Repaired after a torpedo had blown her stern on23.2.1942 was deployed to shell advancing Russian troop concentrations along the Baltic coast. At the end of the War, she was handed over to US-Navy, and she sunk on 22.12.1946 after the atomic bomb tests at Bikini atoll....more

Built in 1976 as ‘Smit Houston’, this 16.000 ihp class tug has been chartered in 1990 to Greenpeace by the owners SmitWijs. The crane of the foredeck has been removed to make place for the extension of the top of the forecastle into a helicopter deck was capable of carrying a total weight of 4 tons. Renamed ‘Waker’ in 1995 by the next owner ‘SWI’, the ship, stationed at Den Helder, will remain at least until 2010 with the Netherlands Coastguard.
