One disadvantage of the LWS was the lack of armor, and armor was deemed necessary for any amphibious operations. The floating trailer was also thought to be too cumbersome and clumsy so a new scheme was devised. The overall structure of the LWS was kept, but the new vehicle had the trackwork and suspension of the ubiquitous PzKpfw IV to support a lightly armored superstructure. Two new vehicles, called Panzerfaehre or PzF, were built and designed to take a large pontoon between them to transport a tank or other cargo. Interesting on this design are the cape stand winch in the middle of the deck and the fold down air intakes. The driver sits in the front down and below and just before the air intakes. Thus the PzF would act as a ferry rather than a tractor. However, the program was canceled in 1942 after the two prototypes were built and tried. A pre-production of seven LWS II were built and they served on the Eastern front. After the war the LWS was taken by the British and to England for technical assessment. 」...more

The Leichter Panzersp'hwagen were a series of light four-wheel drive armoured cars produced by Nazi Germany from 1935 to 1944. The rear mounted engine was a 67 kW Horch 3.5 petrol engine, giving it a road speed of 80 km/h and a cross-country speed of 40 km/h. It had a maximum range of 300 km. A radio car version, armed like the 221 with a 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun. Included additional radio equipment, and had a large 'bed-frame' antenna over the vehicle. The AAVP 7A 1 is equipped with a new up gunned weapon station that is more reliable and provide greater fire-power than previous models. It mounts an MK19 40mm grenade launcher and an M2 HB CAL 50 machine gun in coaxial mount. The weapon station allows the gunner to engage targets out to 1,500meters and to traverse a full 360 degree at a speed of 45degree per second. The improvements incorporated in the AAVP 7A 1 represent an impressive upgraded performance. The AAVP 7A 1 carries a crew of three plus 21 combat-equipped troops or 4,536kg of cargo from ship to shore. The addition of applique armor, an automatic fire suppression system, bow plane and improved transmission results in a vehicle with superior capabilities. In order to achieve commonality, the improvements developed for the AAVP 7A 1 have also been adapted to the AAVC 7A 1 and AAVR 7A 1....more
